Already Slipping?

So I've already put off one day of running.  I had serious reasons (or so I try to convince myself).  It was the 4th of July, an important national holiday, and the gym was close (no access to a treadmill) and it was too damn hot to run outside.  In all fairness these are really just excuses.  And I'm resuming my running today and I will not make excuses anymore...Okay so I will probably still make excuses, but I'm going to try and make less. Today is 5 miles, which will officially be the farthest I have ever run.  Once again I will hitting the treadmill over the tarmac as there is a high of 102 degrees F today and that's not including the humidity. Heat I can handle, but humidity will kill me eventually.

Right so with this 5 miles I am going to run today I have totaled 15 miles this week and (since this is only week 1) 15 miles total.  Now enough with this blog, I'm feeling motivated and I'm off to the gym.

Starting Out

Right, so I have this crazy goal in life that before I turn 30 I want to finish an Iron Man.  So as one of the many steps I'll have to take to complete this I've decided to start training for my first marathon.  I don't know where or when I will actually run this marathon (details I probably want to figure out sooner rather than later) but I've started training. Today is day three and I'm still fully motivated to go running, which is a good sign.

I was originally going to run outside, but given that it is Iowa and it is July you can count on two things 1) its too hot to move without sweating and 2) sweetcorn. On the first day of my training I ran three miles outside and about died in the process (okay so I didn't about die, but it sure felt like it). I decided to run the 4 miles of day 2 on a treadmill and it was still sticky hot even in the glorious AC!  Today I'm going to continue with the indoors running...I broke into a sweat before 10 AM, this does not bode well for the remainder of the day.

Anyway this blog is mainly for my own selfish purposes of giving me motivation to continue to train for a marathon and to keep myself on track.
